A good TikTok bio fits in one or two short lines: what your videos are about, who they're for, and a reason to follow or tap your link. TikTok bios can't be longer than 80 characters, so every word has to earn its place. Pick an example below, swap in your own details, and check that it still fits before you save.

What to put in your TikTok bio
Your name, username, bio and link each have their own field. The bio holds up to 80 characters, and the link field depends on your account.
Your TikTok profile has several fields, and the bio is only one of them. Let each field do its own job and your bio can stay short.
Field
What TikTok says
What to put there
Name
Shown across TikTok, including the For You feed, comments and messages. Up to 30 characters, and you can change it once every 7 days.
The name people know you by, or your name plus your niche.
Username
Your @handle and part of your profile link. 2 to 24 characters, using letters, numbers, underscores and periods. You can change it once every 30 days, and a new username changes your profile link.
Something short and easy to spell, ideally the same handle you use elsewhere.
Bio
Can't exceed 80 characters.
What your videos are about and why someone should follow.
Links
A website link needs at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account.
One page that matches what your videos promise.
With 80 characters, give each part of your bio a job:
•
What your videos are about, in words a new viewer would understand.
•
Who they're for or what people get: tips, laughs, recipes or a look behind the scenes.
•
One detail that makes it yours, such as a posting schedule, a place or a running joke.
•
A pointer to your link, such as "shop below" or an arrow, if you have one.
Keep it within 80 characters
TikTok's help center says bios can't exceed 80 characters, and spaces, emojis and symbols use up that space too. Write your bio first, then cut words until it fits. The examples below leave room for your own details.
Steps to write your TikTok bio
1.
Decide what you want a new visitor to do: follow, watch a series, shop, book or join your live.
2.
Write one line about what your videos are about, using the words people would search for.
3.
Add one detail or a bit of personality, such as a schedule, a place or a running joke.
4.
If you have a website link, end with a short pointer to it, such as "new drop ↓".
5.
Read it on your phone and cut anything that doesn't help a stranger decide to follow.
Write two or three versions and keep the one that says the most in the fewest characters. When your videos change direction, update your bio so it still describes what people will find.

TikTok bio formulas you can adapt
Keep the formula and swap one block, such as food, fitness, gaming, art, shopping or study, to make the same structure fit your niche.
A formula gives you a shape to fill in, so you never start from an empty box. Keep the structure, swap one part for your own niche, and check that the result stays under 80 characters.

[What you post] for [who it's for]
Creators and educators
Promise + schedule
[What you post] · new video every [day]
Creators who post on a schedule
Joke + truth

The middle dot (·) and the arrow (↓) are optional. They separate ideas on one line and point toward your link, but plain words work too. If a formula makes you add something that isn't true, pick another one.
How to change your TikTok bio
You can edit your bio in the TikTok app or on a computer at tiktok.com. TikTok's help center says editing your bio isn't available on TikTok's mobile website.
In the TikTok app
1.
Tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
2.
Tap Edit profile.
3.
Tap Bio, enter your new bio, then tap Save.
On a computer
1.
Go to tiktok.com and sign in.
2.
Open your profile and select Edit profile.
3.
Select Bio, enter your new bio, then select Save.
Your name and username are on the same Edit profile screen. TikTok lets you change your name once every 7 days and your username once every 30 days. A new username also changes your profile link, so update it anywhere you've shared it.
TikTok bio mistakes to avoid
•
Typing a web address into your bio. Plain text in your bio isn't a clickable link. If you're eligible, add the address under Links in Edit profile instead.
•
Links that open other social apps. TikTok says it no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps. You can still link to those platforms’ websites.
•
Promising what your videos don't deliver. If your bio says daily recipes, post recipes. A mismatch makes new visitors leave.
•
Personal details. Treat your bio as public: leave out your address, school, phone number and anything you wouldn't tell a stranger.
•
Copying someone else's bio word for word. Use these examples as a starting point and make the final version sound like you.
•
Stale details. Update your bio when your schedule, shop or offer changes.
Add a link to your TikTok bio
TikTok lets you add a website link if you have at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account: tap Profile, tap Edit profile, then tap Add next to Links. For what to do if the field is missing, see our guide to adding a link to your TikTok bio.
One link is usually enough. Point it at the page your videos talk about most, and keep the arrow or "link below" in your bio only while the link is there.
If you have several things to share, a link-in-bio page lets you keep one link on TikTok and update the page behind it. Liink is one option: the Free plan includes one public page with unlimited links and QR code sharing, and Pro ($7.99/month or $79.90/year) adds custom domains and detailed analytics. Liink does not write your bio or guarantee clicks.
